White Blood Corpuscles (WBC)
W.B.C called Leucocytes are the most powerful weapon of our Immune System. These cells work in various ways to attack and destroy the enemies that enter into our body – be they viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. While some WBC surround and try to destroy the enemy, some others produce special type of antibodies and with them attack the enemy. You have already read about this in detail in the first chapter. Leucocytes enter the blood circulatory system, reach various parts of the body, flow into the body cells through the minutest blood vessels and remain on guard to attack and destroy the enemy germs. When it is not necessary, they remain in the Lymphatic vessels connecting to Lymph Nodes. When the nodes at the neck, armpits or groins are infected, they get inflamed and appear as swellings.
