A Word... about Names
I’ve discovered something spectacular. A new name name for God.
Actually, it’s an old name for God, but one that I’ve never heard or used before. Abraham, the founding father of the Hebrew nation, gave this name to his Sovereign God when he realized how awesome His power is: Yireh. It’s Hebrew, and it means “The LORD will Provide.”
How awesome is that? It sums up God’s character and person perfectly, doesn’t it? No matter what troubles are surrounding us - the LORD will provide. No matter what insane amounts of studying we must do before the week is out - the LORD will provide. No matter what difficulties we face in our nation now and to come - the LORD will provide.
What a comfort to weary souls.
Be encouraged by this premise, brothers and sisters in Christ. Our God is right here! He’s working everything - every single little detail - to glorify Him and sanctify us…to make us more Christ-like. We can’t worry about anything when we realize the full, glorious extent of what that really means.
You’ll see this theme in each of the articles this issue. We didn’t plan it this way, of course…but God did. He - not we - wants you to be challenged by the life of Todd Beamer, a man determined to give his all for the safety of his nation, throwing himself into the sovereign arms of God on Flight 51. He - not we - wants you to read personal stories of how God worked strange circumstances out for good, like rMag editor Emily Sather’s An Accidental Writer, and inspiring challenges by Moriah Davis and Megan Brouk in their articles, An Attack of the Devil and If We Do Not Give Up.
Perhaps most poignantly, He - not we - wants you to be reminded of His sovereignty in the political realm, by reading Anrew Branch’s A Pilgrim at Peace.
Learn, too, how to pray without ceasing in Katie Nelson’s article, and more about God’s incredible provision in our adoption with Part 2 of guest writer Steve Gambill’s series.
Whichever articles you read, whatever difficulties you’re facing, wherever our country is headed, He has it all under control, and knows exactly what He’s doing. Trust Him. He is the LORD who provides. He is Yireh.

2008 - the most difficult year in my life, and right now I feel so down. For the most part the only time i remembered to talk to God, was to ask “why?”. I have hit bottom and now i guess the only way to go is up. It wasn’t really that i did not know how to go up, but to start praying for courage, commitment and the strength that defies imagination is just too hard for me. I don’t know why life must be too rough for me…. i am just confused and fraustrated about life…i don’t even know what i am doing on your site or why i am mailing …. it’s crazy.. anyway, best of luck in your endeavours!
